The "unusual incident" began with a fight between two men at 34th and Market Street down to the eastbound platform of the 34th Street subway station, Officer Tanya Little said.

As a result of the fight, a "white man" fell onto the tracks and was hit by a SEPTA train at 4:36 p.m. on Jan. 4, Little explained. Medics arrived but ultimately he was pronounced dead at 5:42 p.m.

According to Little "no apprehensions" have been made as of 7:30 p.m., which contradicts a statement SEPTA made to 6abc, saying a suspect was taken into custody at 40th Street around 4:30 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing and a police presence remains in the area.
